Today, September 21st, is the death anniversary of my maternal grandmother Shantimayee Acharya. It will be an understatement to say I miss her. Her presence in our life was so strong that her absence is now stronger. She was a lady who was very successful in her career, raised three kids to become good children, everybody around her loved her, and all in all she led a perfect life but there was this one thing she ignored and that was her health. After working hard for years together, just when her kids had settled, she decided to take a voluntary retirement from her job so that she could travel the world with my grandfather. However life had other plans for her and she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (80% of her kidney had got damaged).
Her journey from thereon was a painful one, not just for her but for the entire family. She finally died in 2009 and with that I lost forever some beautiful moments that I could have spent with her.
Over the past two decades, the face of kidney disease has been rapidly evolving. Landmark developments in nephrology have created new approaches to treatment, and groundbreaking information regarding prevention has altered the world’s understanding of the disease. Your donation will honor my grandmother's battle with kidney disease and spread hope for the future. It will also help raise vital awareness to people at risk for kidney disease, so that they do not have to go through what my grandmother had gone through.
Every donation is meaningful to me and to those kidney patients currently battling with this disease. I would be grateful for your support to help fight kidney disease.
