My work for the National Kidney Foundation has extraordinary personal significance.
In 2012 my niece Shawnee, became a living kidney donor – demonstrating incredible altruism and enormous personal sacrifice to save the life of a loved one. I’ve never been more proud to be her Aunt.
It takes courage and determination to give a part of yourself to another human being – to deal with the physical and psychological toll of testing and surgery. But Shawnee has always been tough. In fact, her love of fitness has inspired my own exercise journey and the challenge I’ll take on today in her honor.
The Shawnee Challenge will test my physical limitations and commitment to helping kidney disease patients achieve a better quality of life through transplantation.
For 5 weeks beginning June 15th: I’ve committed to conquering 5 sets, 10 reps each of these 5 challenging exercises daily:
Here’s how you can support me:
Donate $5 to support my Shawnee Challenge
Get your mat out and get your own reps in, then donate $5
Create your own Take 5 campaign, then donate $5
The gift of living donation has the power to transform the life of a kidney patient – and it’s never been more important than it is now. We’ve recently learned that COVID-19 is leaving a growing number of patients with lasting kidney damage. This is a whole new population of people with no previous history of kidney disease who may someday need a kidney transplant. Please Take 5 today to support my Shawnee Challenge.
